Mentoring the next generation of scientists – SYLVIS Goes to the Fair!

Monday, February 11, 2019

SYLVite Michael Jeffery PAg volunteered as a judge in this year’s Burnaby South Secondary Grade 8 Science Fair Competition. SYLVIS participates in this event annually. The fun-filled day enabled students to interact with science professionals, while demonstrating their knowledge of experimental design and scientific testing of hypotheses.  From testing stain removal techniques using house-hold products to assessing the impact of population growth and density, there was a high level of innovation in almost all the projects. From 18 projects, the judges selected eight to move onto the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair being held at the University of British Columbia in April. All the participants were very well prepared and the science projects were successful (or the students explained what they would do differently). We wish the selected students the best of luck at the next level of competition.
