Community Engagement

Educating and increasing awareness within the communities we work in is part of SYLVIS’s core values. Each year, SYLVIS participates in open houses put on by Lehigh Hanson Materials Sechelt Mine and Ecowaste Landfill. These open houses give community members a chance to learn more about their operations. It is a fun filled day with booths, games and up close experiences with some of the heavy equipment.

These open houses provide an opportunity for SYLVIS to engage with community members and answer any questions that they may have about our programs. At the Lehigh open house, Michael Jeffery and Christian Evans showcased the progressive reclamation work that SYLVIS has completed over 20 years at the mine. At the Ecowaste open house, Graeme Shutler, Natalie Robinson and Sarah Carlson discussed SYLVIS’s soil-plant leachate treatment system and demonstrated our wetland design through a table top display model.

Thank you to everyone that attended the open houses.  We look forward to seeing you next year!
